IUCN WCPA Deputy Chair, Dr Julia Miranda Londoño
IUCN WCPA Deputy Chair, Dr Julia Miranda Londoño is a lawyer specialising in environmental law. Since 2004, she has been Director of Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia, the government agency in charge of the administration and management of the 59 protected areas in the Parks System and responsible for coordinating the National System of Protected Areas. In 2009, she was appointed Regional Vice Chair for South America in the IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas and in November 2015, she became its Deputy Chair. She has strong experience and knowledge in environmental topics that are transcendental to Colombia as a hugely diverse country and she represents Colombia in various international forums in matters of urban environment, national parks and protected areas, among others. She has won the prestigious Packard Award and was recently the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) of the U.S. Congress with ICCF’s “Good Steward” Award in recognition of her outstanding personal commitment to conservation.
