Green Infrastructure Planning and Nature Based Solutions
Fingal County Council has piloted the use of Green Infrastructure Planning in Ireland. the county has experienced rapid urban expansion over the last 20 years with accelerated development in its major towns. Fingal also has a wealth of natural and cultural assets including the countryside, coast and islands, monuments and historic houses which are important in defining the character of the county and in providing amenities for residents and for the growing tourism sector. Fingal has nationally and internationally important biodiversity resources especially along the coastline part of which is within the Dublin Bay Urban Biosphere. Over the past 10 years Fingal has used Green Infrastructure Planning Policies and in particular its Open Space Strategy and Biodiversity Action Plan to pursue sustainable physical and economic development goals. The presentation will take a critical look at some of results of the Green Infrastructure related policies and initiatives employed in Fingal.
