Dr. Kanda holds a master’s degree of Civil Engineering (Kyoto University) and joined the Ministry of Construction of Japan in 1986. Over subsequent years he has held a number of important posts including being Deputy Mayor of both Kurashiki City and Toyama City each with populations of around 500,000, with associated responsibilities for transport, infrastructure and tourism.
He also has held the following teaching roles: Visiting Professor at University of Tsukuba: Lecturer at Kyoto University and Tokyo Institute of Technology.
He is a strong advocate of compact cities and associated of public transport in conjunction with urban planning for community health and lifestyle.
