The world’s urban population is expected to pass six billion by 2040. Creating sustainable and liveable cities has become one of the greatest challenges of the 21st Century. Our parks, protected areas and green spaces are vital for human health and well-being and a range of ecosystem services vital to the sustainability of cities.
From this challenge has emerged the concept of the ‘park city’. London is preparing to become the world’s first ‘National Park City’.The capital of England has over 3000 parks, 1600 sites of importance for nature conservation, four National Nature Reserves and 3.8 million gardens. The Mayor will launch the National Park City in 2019.
In this Master Class leaders from cities in the UK, USA and Australia will share their experiences in reshaping cities for liveability and explore the potential pathways to achieving the vision of a future park city.
